Chosen brands receive mentorship and entrepreneurial workshops. The year’s brands include Claude Kameni, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, Undra Celeste, Who Decides War, and Zeynep Arcay, as well as shoe brands Keeyahri, Nalebe, and Sunni Sunni. Last Year selected brands included Ashya, BruceGlen, Busayo, Kimberly Goldson, LaQuan Smith, Reese Cooper, Alejandra Alonso Rojas and A.W.A.K.E. Mode.

The New Wave at Saks Program offers new designers a chance to get valuable insight into what it takes to make it in a large department store. It also helps designers get exposure and access. To be successful in the fashion industry, new brands and designer should take advantage of any chance to learn more about the business. Some of the selected designers did not go to fashion school. Knowing how to draw or going to fashion schools are not automatic precursors to success. There are many successful designers that do not fall in those categories.
